Who we are

We strongly believe that entrepreneurship in a small scale approach is the best driver for real healthcare innovation. It’s the perfect ground for commitment in taking care for one another and allows to put focus on what really matters: attention and comfort for who’s vulnerable.

Via our proven franchise concepts in the Netherlands we’ve succeeded in building an extraordinary network of 160 small-scale housing facilities for people with mental disabilities or memory loss. Next to that we’ve set up a network of 15 facilities where excellent medical care is provided in an outpatient setting.

By avoiding impersonal institutionalization and undue bureaucracy, we organize healthcare in a way we would like it for ourselves. We tear down stigmatising barriers and integrate maximally into society. We also choose explicitly for bottom-up financing currents that allow freedom of choice for whoever needs support.

The result of our approach is also our goal in life: affordability for patient & payer, high-quality deliverables and the best possible experience for every stakeholder. We dream about sharing our way of working with the entire world. Discover our concepts and get in touch to make it happen.

Herbergier

The concept

Herbergier – Dutch for “Innkeeper” – is a small-scale care home for elderly people suffering from memory loss and dementia. In every Herbergier, 16 residents live a life as normal as possible. There’s a big living area with an open kitchen accessible for everyone. Next to that every resident has a separate apartment – with bathroom – that has to be decorated with own furniture and other personal belongings. The absence of standard “care” furniture contributes to turning the Herbergier in a true home.

The focus in daily life lies on what people still can do, not on what they cannot. Choices are not made for people if they still can make them for themselves.

Every single Herbergier is an independent company in the scope of the franchise concept. The care entrepreneurs who run the Herbergier also live in the same building. This leads to maximal commitment and short communication lines with all stakeholders.

Every franchisee is responsible for

  • the quality of living and care
  • respecting the Herbergier values
  • managing staff (15 FTE), accountancy, … In short: running the company
  • the connection with the outside world

The franchisor

  • makes sure that a franchisee can focus on what really matters: the wellbeing of the residents
  • takes care of training and coaching of franchisees
  • facilitates several services related to real estate, quality control, communication, accountancy, HR
  • connects franchisees with each other and represents the interests of the entire franchise network

Unique selling points
  • The franchisees – who have experience in elderly care – are couples who live with their “customers” in the Herbergier
  • The outside doors are open, which means that people who are normally locked away for exaggerated protection reasons are free to go outside
  • The real estate is owned by investors who explicitly show social responsibility
  • Residents use pensions and own capital for costs related to living; (medical) care is paid with personal budgets

Statistics

Overall
- Founded in 2007
- 41 Herbergiers in the Netherlands

Per Herbergier:
- 16 residents
- 25 workers (15 FTE)
